The ultimate traveller’s checklist

Whether you're travelling for business, leisure or bleisure, you need AHI's ultimate travellers checklist.

The ultimate traveller’s checklist

Travel is a big part of life for many businesses, but it doesn’t always go to plan. Fortunately, with AHI travel insurance you can take steps to protect your most valuable asset – you and your people – while travelling overseas.

Before you or your employees head off on an overseas trip, there’s a number of things you can do to ensure your journey is a success.

Consult your healthcare professional

Visit your doctor at least eight weeks prior to going overseas to discuss vaccination requirements, pre-existing health conditions and disease prevention. Make sure you have everything covered so you don’t travel unprepared.

Register your travel plan

Smartraveller allows you to register your travel plans before you leave. Recording your information will ensure both you and your loved ones can be contacted in an emergency.

Make copies of your important documents

Make sure you pack your passport, tickets, AHI insurance policy and 24-hour emergency phone list. Also leave a copy of each document with your family or your office, just in case you lose yours.

Check your travel insurance is up to date

Review your policy to ensure premiums are current and that you’re covered for your chosen destination.

Breeze through airport security

Avoid becoming a reality TV star – check out TravelSECURE. This government website features information on passenger and baggage screening, as well as recommendations about travelling with children.

Local currency

Make sure you have a small amount of local currency on you when you reach your destination, in case you have to pay arrival or departure taxes.

Passport and visa

Check that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond the period for which you’re travelling. Also check whether a visa is required for any of the destinations you’re visiting.

Driver's licence

Make sure your licence is current and valid. Not all hire car companies will accept a foreign driver's licence. Contact your local Australian Automobile Association to find out more about an International Driving Permit (IDP).

Check your Medicare card

Medicare benefits are not available for treatments received overseas, however Australia has reciprocal healthcare agreements with a number of countries. Be aware that these agreements do not replace the need for medical insurance for travel overseas.
